BACKGROUND

The KIE LTD District Business Solution Centres (DBSC) support the government strategy to revitalize the SME sector and thus the economy as articulated in:-

a) The new sesional paper No.2 of 2005 on Development of Micro and Small Enterprises of Wealth and Employment Creation for Poverty reduction
b) The Private Sector Development Strategy Paper (PSDS)

The districts in focus are considered the milennium districts and include, Murang'a, Meru South, Bondo, Siaya, Bungoma, Suba, Kilifi, Turukana and Garissa.

Business SME solution centres are facilities that are set up to offer platforms from which entreprenuers can develop business ideas into profitable business ventures run ans owned by individuals. It also provides breeding grounds for existing business for growth and take-off.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF DBSC

a) To be a one-stop-shop for an integrated mix of business services targeting the youth taking
up self-employment within the MSE sector and other existing MSE's throughout the
country.

b) Cultivating an entreprenuership mindset and business skills development through training.

c) contribute to the stimulation and growth of MSE's in local areas through the delivery of development and support services to MSE enterprises in the district..

LAUNCHING OF DBSC's

The launching of DBSc in Bungoma and Siaya took place on 8th and 9th May 2008.

BUNGOMA BSC

LOCATION: Bungoma-Mumias Road (Between national cereals board and tourist Hotel, within KIE LTD compound)

SERVICES:

-Lobbying for enabling policy and regulatory environment
-Provision of information systems on markets investmeent and technology
-Identification of potential business in the districts (business Profiling).
-Provide Business skills and entreprenuership Development (BSED) and business advisory and training services
-Provide or source incubation services
-Advice on micro Financial services
-Carry out research on suitable technology
-Develop rural market and linkages with markets
within and outside the district
